After the success of our GHTANT/ETANT miniconference events in Darwin and Alice Springs in 2018, we have teamed up again to provide an event for teachers on Saturday April 6 2019.
GHTANT members and other humanities teachers are very welcome to attend! In 2019 our Darwin event attracted over 70 teachers and we hope for a strong turnout again this year.
GHTANT will be running four workshops, with ETANT running workshops in addition to sessions with local and visiting authors. GHTANT members are very welcome to attend any of the sessions (we know cross-discipline teaching is common!)
GHTANT sessions are:
1) Bringing HASS to Life: participants will explore a range of activities that can better engage students, and will walk away with ideas they can embed in their own classes to inspire and motivate students to learn about the humanities. (Charleen Conroy, Dripstone MS)
2) Historical Sources Escape Room: okay, not technically an "escape room" but an activity where students analyse sources to unlock a mystery box! This workshop will guide teachers on how they can successfully deliver an engaging activity on sources! (Steve Hawkins, CSC)
3) Using Thinglink: Thinglink is an online tool that allows for the easy annotation of images and films. It is a great way to involve technology in annotating maps or historical sources, and can easily be applied in English classes, too. Please bring a device! (Steve Hawkins, CSC)
4) Inquiry-based learning - making it work: this session will provide a range of useful tips and strategies to create more successful inquiry-based learning activities in HASS classes. Inquiries can be poorly delivered, and this workshop will provide useful advice to making inquiry-based learning relevant and engaging. (Raine Caldwell, CSC)
