Hello 2022! It's certainly looking like the pandemic will continue to impact on our members this year, though we hope over the course of the year we can return to some semblance of normalcy. We certainly hope to do what we can to support you over the course of the year. Highlights for us in 2022 include hosting the History Teachers Association of Australia national conference in the Term 3 break. Details on this very soon!

Map It Competition - Years 7 and 8 - Closes 14 October 2022

An engaging way for students to explore their local neighbourhood through creative change making.
If you are looking for a captivating way to engage your Year 7 and 8 students in developing a deeper knowledge of Place and Liveability – look no further!
The Victorian MapIT! competition 2022 offers:

  • A practical application of Place and Liveability knowledge and skills, fostering student reflection.
  • The use of geospatial technology, providing an opportunity for real-world geographical problem solving.

Students will be given access to a platform hosted by ESRI to a map of their local neighbourhood, enabling
them to assess it and develop ideas for improvement.

  • Lesson plans, marking guides and student guide.
  • An activity for the whole class which is assessed by the teacher. Teachers can select up to 3 students from each level to upload their work to the official MapIT! Competition website.
  • Prizes for local and state winners will be awarded.

All students who complete the activity can receive a certificate which can be downloaded from the MapIT!
Competition website, marking their achievement.

Submission ends: 14 th October 2022, at 3:30pm.
Winners announced: 4 th of November 2022.

National History Challenge

The theme for this year's Challenge is 'Causes and Consequences' - visit the NHC webpage for details on registration! We'd love to see more NT students enter this fantastic competition!

Australian History Competition

Registrations for the 2022 Australian History Competition are open. Registrations close at the end of this month, with the competition scheduled for May 30 to June 3 2022. Check out the details here!

Australian Geography Competition

The 2022 Australian Geography Competition will be held from 24 March to 6 April 2022. The competition is now held online, and prizes are available, including the opportunity for students to attend the 2022 Geography Big Week Out that will be hosted by the Northern Territory in July this year. Membership details

We offer three membership levels, each on a rolling 12-month subscription:

  • Individual Membership $50.00 
  • Institutional Membership $100.00 (For up to three staff members per school) 
  • Pre-Service Teacher Membership $25.00 NOW FREE!

How to join

1. Pay with credit card 

We can accept credit card payments using Stripe. Your payment is secure and we do not keep a record of your credit card details on file. 

Note that GHTANT provides institutional membership - if you are new to a school, it may help to ask if your school is an institutional member.

2. Pay via cheque or electronic banking
